The group gathered during a CVS Caremark All Kids Can Baseball Camp at the park.
Little League players from the East Hartford Child Plan Challenger team stepped onto a field of dreams recently at a CVS Caremark All Kids Can Baseball Camp at Fenway Park.

The camp was the result of a partnership between CVS Caremark and the Boston Red Sox that provides New England children with disabilities an opportunity to play ball at Fenway Park and get hitting tips from Red Sox Batting Coach Dave Magadan. It was one of ten camps scheduled for this baseball season and is part of CVS Caremark's national philanthropic All Kids Can program, which focuses on helping children with disabilities learn, play and succeed in life. The East Hartford Child Plan Challenger team includes players aged 6 to 14 with varying disabilities.

The CVS Caremark All Kids Can Baseball Camp includes hitting tips and instruction in the Red Sox batting cage with Red Sox Batting Coach Dave Magadan; on-field batting practice with Magadan; a photo opportunity and lunch in the Red Sox dugout; a visit from Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster; a VIP tour of Fenway Park; early entry to the evening's Red Sox batting practice; and tickets to the evening's game in the CVS/pharmacy Family Section.

Eileen Howard Dunn, senior vice president of vorporate communications and community relations for CVS Caremark Corporation, said: "This is our fifth year hosting the CVS Caremark All Kids Can Baseball Camps at Fenway. We are very proud of our unique partnership with the Boston Red Sox that gives us both the opportunity to give some very special children a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Fenway Park. We enjoy the magic that is created at these camps and love observing the smiles and laughter of the young athletes and the cheering of proud coaches and parents."

Jennifer Oatway, coach of the East Hartford Little League Challenger Team, said: "I was so excited when I learned that my team would be going to Fenway Park for an All Kids Can Baseball Camp! The players and their families truly deserve a day like this given the challenges they face on a daily basis. It's wonderful that CVS Caremark and the Red Sox partnered to create this special opportunity for Challenger players."

In planning the camps, CVS Caremark reached out to coaches of Little League Challenger Teams, Miracle League teams and inclusive baseball teams in the New England area to apply for an opportunity to attend one of the camps. The camps are part of a continued, 6-year partnership between CVS Caremark and the Boston Red Sox, demonstrating their shared commitment to local children with disabilities. Several of this season's CVS Caremark All Kids Can Baseball Camps focus on Challenger teams from inner city neighborhoods.

Bat Rule change for 2009 - BPF rating for Bats.
by posted 03/06/2009

Rule 1.10

1.10 - The bat must be a baseball bat which meets Little League specifications and standards as noted in this rule. It shall be a smooth, rounded stick and made of wood or of material and color tested and proved acceptable to Little League standards.

Little League (Majors) and below: it shall not be more than thirty-three (33) inches in length nor more than two and one-quarter (2¼) inches in diameter. Non-wood bats shall be printed with a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.15 or less;

Over the last several years, most of the bats made by the top manufacturers have been compliant with the maximum 1.15 Bat Performance Factor (BPF). The difference is that beginning in 2009, all bats used in Little League Baseball must be imprinted with the BPF.

If you plan on purchasing a bat for this season, make sure that it is imprinted with a BPF that is less than or equal to 1.15.

For more information on the BPF rating please click on the link below.
